Top 10 Fashion Colors for 2010 Announced

Think twice, ladies, before you start weeding out items in your current spring/summer wardrobes. According to the leading indicator of color trends for 2010, some things you already have may get a second life.
Just as New York Fashion Week is getting underway, the Pantone Color Institute has revealed the Top 10 shades chosen by designers in Manhattan for their ready-to-wear collections.
According to a WWD.com report, roughly 13 percent of all designers staging previews showed a preference for the same three pastel shades registered by Pantone: turquoise, aurora (yellow) and violet.

On the lower edge of unanimity, about 7 percent of designers preferred: dried herb (olive), pink and (bright) blue.
Pantone’s executive director, Leatrice Eiseman, told WWD the color choices were a sign of “cautious optimism”.
They lead this Eye to expect that white and brown will be the key accessory colors.

Oscar Fashion Numbs Down for '09

It didn't hit me until Best Actor Nominee Mickey Rourke graced the red carpet at the 81st Annual Academy Awards...someone must have choked off the route to Harry Winston's this week in Hollywood.
The throats dripping in diamonds that we normally see on Oscar night were almost no where to be found.
Necklines were fully exposed, with strapless or single-strapped goddess gowns being the most common choice among actresses Sunday night. But it appeared as if most leading ladies Twittered each other on their way to the Pavilion and agreed to ditch the gaudy necklaces.

From Beyonce to Alicia Keyes to Sarah Jessica Parker to Angelina Jolie to Meryl Streep to Penelope Cruz (mentioned on a scale of talent, if not stylishness) it was evident that there was a nod to the catastrophic economy when the starlets' stylists plotted their outfits.



That's where Mickey Rourke comes in. Rourke accessorized his milk-white Jean Paul Gaultier tux with a leather-strung pendant dedicated to his 18-year-old Chihuahua Loki, who passed away in the week leading up to Oscar night.

"The Wrestler" star may have made the most outlandish fashion statement of the night, as it turns out.

Black Designers Diss Michelle Obama

It was only a matter of time...

...As soon as the world got wind of "who Michelle Obama was wearing" for the Inaugural festivities of President Barack Obama, her husband, any designers who thought themselves deserving of the honor and felt snubbed by the First Lady would get their collective noses out of joint.

Unfortunately, a cadre of African-American fashion designers may join the whiney chorus before Mrs. Obama's Inaugural gown has time to be pressed and shipped to its rightful place at the Smithsonian.

According to a post-Inaugural report by Women's Wear Daily, black designers feel slighted by Mrs. Obama's choice of daywear by Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo for the swearing-in festivities, and a shimmering silk chiffon gown by Asian-American designer Jason Wu for the galas that lasted late into the evening.

They couldn't even take the higher ground and compliment her on her choices; not even for a day.

My feeling is that the former model, Amnau Eele, who's said to be leading the Black Artists Association protest against Mrs. Obama needs a reality check: none of the black designers she referenced in her assertions to WWD were any more deserving than the ones so chicly selected.
